L Word Promo Pic
From Susan, who has no URI to link to, comes this. The plotlines may be contrived and predictable but this does naked women well.

So, in your limited opinion (hehe), would most lesbians find that pic to be sexy?
Honestly? There are a good portion of lesbians that, like a good portion of men, find happiness in just about any pictures of naked women so I’d say those lesbians would love it. Then you’ve got people like myself who find skinny minny women without curves (Shane, Alice, Dana, Straight Girl, etc) most unattractive. My honest opinion of the pictures is that it’s not terribly sexy but it’s a really nice promo for the show.
They are rather skinny, but the picture is beautiful.
So, in a general sense, do most lesbians prefer women with “meat on their bones”? I have a lesbian character in a story I’m writing and I’m unsure of her “type”.
Presently, she’s leaning toward “women of simple beauty who are regularly passed over by men”. I don’t know if that’s a cliche or not.
I’d have to agree that the picture is pleasing enough but not necessarily sexy. I dunno, but it’s too static or posed to be sexy to me. No engagement with the viewer. Which is not to say that they are not attractive….
I’m finding it hard to respond to j.brotherlove about lesbians in general. It’s fair to say that just like the TLW characters are not wholly representative of lesbians (nor did they intend to be), there’s probably not a general lesbian type to whom we are attracted. I’d say we also distinguish between celebrity (remember the Xena fascination, or the Bionic Woman if you’re old enough?) and reality. Upon reflection, though, I’d say most of us are accepting of a variety of body types and physical features, perhaps more so than men but I hate to cast a broad net there, too. Suffice to say I know plenty of very attractive lesbians, some of whom even have long hair! And many of whom would attract the attention of men, even though they wouldn’t want it!
Firstly, I apologize Micelle for hijacking your comments and turning them into a discussion board on lesbian beauty.
Good points, Susan. Don’t get me wrong. I know it’s somewhat unfair to stereotype. But I think within every category of sexuality there are those who are considered an “ideal” by the majority.
Gay men (or men, in general) are pretty easy to figure out. We are very visual beings who respond to obvious media-driven ideals of beauty (with some exceptions, of course).
Since most of us don’t fit the established mold there has to be another standard of desirability (just as restricting, in the case of GBM). I’m curious if this contrivance exists amongst lesbians.
I don’t think you can sum up lesbian attraction to one type. For as many lesbians as there are like me who shun the typical rail thin, vacant look standard of beauty you have just as many who want exactly that. I think this is still better than with men where I believe the majority subscribe to the media fed notions of beauty.
I don’t think your “type” is a cliche and I can imagine just the kind of woman that you’re speaking of and it’s true that I myself find great beauty in women just like that. However my skin crawls a little bit when lesbian women (or their beauty) are described in terms of how men respond or don’t respond to them. That’s a personal thing with me though.
No worries about the discussion being a wee bit off the original topic. I’m enjoying it.
Ummm, I can’t see anything else because naked Jennifer Beals and Pam Grier are staring at me.
Yowza.

Ha! I knew there was something wrong there. Thanks a bunch. That’s exactly the clue I was looking for.
